Baja California is consolidating itself as a tourism leader in Mexico and the world, said Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, Secretary of Tourism of the State, during the Third Government Report before the Tourism and Investment Commission of the State Congress. The official highlighted the historic achievements reached under the visionary leadership of Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda.
In three years, intense work has been done on the tourism positioning of the state, making Baja California the host of the Tianguis Turístico México 2025, the most important event in the sector in Latin America. It will also once again host the Caribbean Series, reaffirming its ability to host large-scale events. Aguíñiga highlighted the recovery and expansion of international flights, including connections with Asia and strategic markets such as Las Vegas, NV, and Phoenix, AZ.
In Social Tourism, the ‘Corazones Viajeros’ program benefited more than 12 thousand people in three years and was a finalist in the ISTO Awards 2024 for its commitment to inclusive tourism. In addition, the program ‘Support for Productive and Sustainable Inclusion’ promoted 33 projects with an investment of 2.9 million pesos, benefiting mostly women and indigenous communities.
Baja California received 28.2 million visitors, generating an economic impact of 119,816 million pesos. Among the highlighted data: an average hotel occupancy of 51.91%, 70.43 million border crossings, 4.05 million passengers in the CBX and 1 million on cruises. The state contributed 69,966 million pesos to the National Tourism GDP, being the seventh entity with the highest contribution, and registered 148.2 million dollars in Foreign Direct Tourism Investment, placing it as the third in the country.
The Secretary also presented progress in Planning, Training, Tourism Promotion, Romance Tourism, Health and Wellness, and Private Investment. Finally, he thanked Governor Marina del Pilar for her support and reaffirmed his commitment to work with various sectors to strengthen tourism in Baja California and benefit all communities.
