During the first two months of the current federal administration, Michoacán has managed to improve its position and leave the top 10 of intentional homicides in Mexico, placing itself in eleventh position, according to Marcela Figueroa Franco, Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), in a conference led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

Figueroa Franco explained that 49.7% of intentional homicides in Mexico are distributed mainly in seven states, with Guanajuato being the most affected with 12% of the total.

Other states with high rates include Sinaloa with 7.3%, State of Mexico with 7.1% and Baja California with 6.6%.

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla pointed out that the notable decrease in homicides in Michoacán is a result of the public security policies carried out in the region.

He also highlighted that at the beginning of the current administration, Michoacán was among the states with the highest incidence, along with Guanajuato, but thanks to close collaboration with the federal government, a continuous reduction has been achieved over the last three years.

In November, he pointed out that with 50 cases of intentional homicide registered during the first half of November, Michoacán has managed to leave the top 10 places in terms of incidence, which shows that coordination between security and law enforcement agencies is advancing.
