The President of the Federation of Small Businesses, María Candelaria González Cajún, has highlighted that while excessive electricity charges have not caused significant issues in Campeche, blackouts remain a persistent problem.
Transformer Issues
González Cajún has called on the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to maintain the energy distribution systems and replace old transformers. She pointed out that many transformers have been in use for years and now serve more homes, exacerbating the issue.
“This year, we haven’t faced the same level of impact as in previous periods, although there have been increases in service costs. However, the effects have been less severe,” she stated.
Rising Electricity Costs
In November, electricity saw the highest increase in costs according to the National Consumer Price Index (INPC), published on December 9 by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). Other products with rising costs include onions, housing, LP gas, papaya, lunchrooms, inns, sandwich shops, taco shops, air transportation, and professional services. Despite this, Campeche recorded an inflation rate below the national average, with a variation of less than 0.01 percent in November.
Consumer Complaints
The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) reported that from January to December 2023, the CFE received the most consumer complaints, totaling 8,973. Walmart followed with 4,224 complaints, and Liverpool with 2,182.
