The Mérida International Airport is gearing up for an extraordinary end-of-year season, nearing 4 million passengers, and will soon launch a new route to the United States.
New Route Details
Héctor Navarrete Muñoz, regional director of Grupo Asur, announced that starting Wednesday, December 18, the seasonal Mérida-Los Ángeles-Mérida route will be operated by Viva, based at the “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” airport. There will be eight flights on this route, with the first departure already fully booked. Subsequent flights are scheduled for December 25, January 1, and January 8, 2025.
Viva’s Expanded Coverage
With the addition of the Mérida-Los Angeles route, Viva becomes the airline with the most international destinations from Mérida. The airline also offers direct flights to Miami, Orlando, and Havana. Viva now operates 15 routes from Mérida, including destinations such as Bajío, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey, Puebla, Querétaro, Santa Lucia (AIFA), Toluca, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Veracruz, and Villahermosa.
Historical Achievement
Navarrete Muñoz highlighted the significance of this new route, stating, “The new route from Mérida to Los Angeles is a great achievement. In all the years that the Mérida airport has existed, it has never had a flight to the city of Los Angeles.”
