
Airlines must pay compensation to several passengers who had some kind of setback when boarding the plane to make their trip, according to the Civil Aviation Law and the Federal Law for the Protection of Airline Consumers.
The Civil Aviation Law published the Airline Compensation Policies in the Official Gazette of the Federation so that airline passengers who go through some of the most common situations at airports can be compensated for the airlines’ failure.
In this sense, the Airline Compensation Policies establish a system of compensation and indemnity for users based on a table where the type of compensation depends on the time that the passenger is affected.
Thus, airlines must pay users who are affected by delays and overbooking of flight tickets, even if the seat already sold is offered again to people, a practice that passengers often denounce every time they have to board a plane.
This is what airlines must pay affected passengers
For all airline passengers affected by flight delays and for having sold their plane ticket, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) established a series of regulations for users who cannot travel on time and in the correct manner due to the airline companies.
Following the resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) on the subject of airlines, the companies Volaris, Aeroméxico, Vivaaerobus or any other, will owe passengers at least 25 percent of the cost of the ticket in case the user decides to wait to board the plane, with the option of having the full cost of the ticket returned.
Among the rest of the compensations for passengers affected by flight delays are:
Transportation on the first available flight.
Coverage of food and lodging by the airline.
Rescheduling of the flight with a date convenient to the passenger.
