In relation to the uncertainty generated by Donald Trump’s accession to the presidency, there has been an increase in the population in a context of mobility that approaches the border, according to Claudia Portela, administrator of Proyecto Salesiano Tijuana.
She said that this increase in the population that arrives began to be noticed since mid-December.
She specified that since they are people in mobility it is difficult to calculate how much this increase has been.
We can say that it is 25 to 30%, every day we always receive someone that we guide, who can be people who come to eat and who directly ask for support, or who during the day come and you guide them where they can go, but we have seen an increase.
Solidarity
She exemplified that that morning they received a Honduran mother with her daughter who came from Chiapas, because they had been waiting 8 months for their appointment, but due to the rumors about Trump’s arrival to the presidency, they made the decision to go to the border.
‘There are many people who are coming from many places, both from Mexico and abroad,’ he said.
Therefore, he invited the population to be supportive of those who need it and the authorities to always have dialogue with civil associations.
He also asked the population to donate warm clothing, blankets, gloves or hats if they can.
He said that on New Year’s they plan to make mole or pozole for those who visit them, since on these dates they receive around 580 people for breakfast.
