Caravans remain stranded on the coast of Chiapas

Due to fatigue from the walk and fear of being victims of organized crime, two migrant caravans totaling some 600 people remain stranded on the route of the large coast of Chiapas.

A group of the human exodus that left Tapachula on January 8 and did not accept the safe conduct of the National Institute of Migration (INM) for fear of being deported, decided to stay in the municipality of Escuintla waiting for the next group that began the trip during the early hours of this Sunday and is spending the night in Huixtla.

Roberto Rodríguez from Venezuela, said that in the absence of a response from the CBP ONE appointments, the only option he has is to start walking to try to reach the northern border of the country before January 20, the date on which Donald Trump will assume the office of President of the United States.

“Because people have needs, some say they want to go higher, others want to go to Mexico, so depending on the need of each one is what they have well. The new Donald Trump laws that are affecting them, is that why they are also moving? Yes, exactly and especially the CBP that people were stranded here in Mexico, because the CBP is a small minimum route, as they say a minimum escape that they give, because they are people who ask for it, they only give very few appointments because people are stranded here in Mexico,” he specified.

The migrant assured that they face two situations, one is the persecution and deception of the immigration agents and on the other the threats of organized crime, which worsens during the night walk.

“People say that there is extortion, there is a lot of it on the part of some authorities who look bad and do not allow people to get on, even with the document that they give us there, there are authorities that do not respect that document and try to harm the person,” he pointed out.
The caravan called “Trump Exodus” will leave Huixtla at night to arrive during the first hours of Tuesday to Escuintla where it will join the next caravan and thus try to advance as soon as possible.
