The lithium resource found in Mexico is a development opportunity for states in the north of the country, such as Tamaulipas, which have reserves of this mineral.

Tamaulipas is one of the 18 regions that have detected probable deposits, said the president of the Senate Energy Commission, Laura Itzel Castillo Juárez, who was in Tampico to participate in the energy forum within the National Development Plan.

How many deposits are there in Tamaulipas?

There are at least five deposits in the state located in the highland region that includes the municipalities of Bustamante and Jaumave.

“The project that the president of the country, Claudia Sheinbaum, is leading around the production of Olinea for mobility throughout the Mexican Republic, aims to have 50% of transport with electromobility in 2025.”

Laura Itzel Castillo Juárez added that the case of the Mayan Train needs to be taken into consideration, where more than 40% of its operation depends on electric energy and the remaining percentage is hybrid.

Regarding the energy sector, she highlighted that investment in pipelines, refineries and the use of natural gas will continue. She indicated that it is planned to promote development in the southeast and north of the country, in investments in energy infrastructure.

He stressed that the country has materials such as lithium, considered the oil of the future, “we should feel proud of the great potential of this material in Mexico.”
