A new attack by organized crime in Michoacán terrorized the population of Zitácuaro. The events were attributed to the New Generation Cartel (CNG). Here are the details:
More than 1,500 high school children who were trapped in their schools, businesses set on fire, blockades with vehicles and confrontations, were part of what the municipal capital of Zitácuaro, Michoacán, experienced.
The above was caused by a cell of the New Generation Cartel, led by its leader Edwin Rivera Padilla, “El Barbas”, after a confrontation with the military.
Minutes before 7 pm this Friday, residents reported, from different points in that city, gunshots.
One of the places was at the exit to Toluca of the city of Zitácuaro, as well as the burning of an Oxxo store that is located in front of a car dealership.
The mobilizations of emergency corps, patrols of the Municipal Police and Civil Guard, were deployed in response to the alert calls.
Citizens reported through social networks that armed subjects had also set fire to another convenience store, located on Moctezuma Street.
At the same time, elementary schools in the evening shift, notified parents at the last minute that students would remain inside the school until there were safety conditions for them to be able to leave the school, as was the case of the federal secondary school number 1 “Nicolás Romero”, as well as the Technical Secondary School 49 “Samuel Ramos”, which each have about 750 students in each shift.
Likewise, on the main avenues and accesses of the city they began to retain vehicles and leave them across to prevent traffic.
Uncertainty and panic were not long in coming on the streets and many businesses decided to close their doors and protect the customers who were inside their premises.
Municipal authorities have not made any statements regarding the events, only unofficially recommending that people take shelter until further notice.
As of Friday night, tension continues, as personnel from the National Defense Secretariat have surrounded a house, into which the heavily armed individuals have entered.
