An act of recklessness has generated outrage among the maritime community of Los Cabos. A person was caught jumping into the sea from the “Neptune’s Finger,” an emblematic rock formation located within the protected natural area of the Cabo San Lucas Arch.
The act, considered reckless and dangerous, was exposed on social media and, according to comments, not only puts the life of the person doing it at risk, but also affects a space declared a World Heritage Site, according to the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP).
The rock formations around the Cabo San Lucas Arch are a refuge for various marine species and constitute a tourist attraction that can only be appreciated through guided tours by service providers on authorized boats.
So far, the identity of the person who carried out the act is unknown. There has also been no official statement from local authorities on the matter. However, it is expected that this incident will motivate the implementation of stricter measures to reinforce the surveillance and protection of this natural area.
