Arturo Medina Mayoral, head of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), announced that by the end of 2024 and so far in 2025, around 2,000 vehicles reported stolen were recovered, which places the entity in the first places nationwide in the fight against this crime.
He explained that according to the information collected by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), Zacatecas registered a 70 percent recovery of stolen cars of national or foreign origin.
He explained that with the aim of locating stolen cars in the United States, software was implemented to find them in national territory that yielded positive results and their owners could be found despite being in the neighboring country to the north.
“We already have the capacity to detect stolen vehicles in the United States. Zacatecas is one of the few states that have that, we are already implementing it,” he said.
Medina Mayoral explained that the new tracking system is used because the Public Vehicle Registry (Repuve) only locates stolen vehicles in the state or in the Republic, but not those stolen in the United States and now there is the capacity to recover cars stolen in Zacatecas or the country and that appear in the northern country.
