Despite the fact that the city registered a hotel occupancy rate of over 90 percent during the first long weekend of the year, the income of beach vendors has not been as good as they had hoped. “There are people, but they don’t want to buy,” said Julian, one of the many beach vendors in the central hotel zone of the city.
During this holiday period, which lasted from January 31 to February 3, the beaches were used by thousands of vacationers, mostly national, to enjoy the sun, the pleasant climate and the natural benefits of this tourist destination. But despite this, the vendors of seafood, souvenirs, masseuses who weave braids and other various items that are offered on the beach, assure that their sales were not as expected.
“People now prefer to bring their food, many already bring their umbrellas and chairs and others simply do not want to spend,” says José, another of the vendors in this city. During the December period -the sellers agree- sales were average, “not too bad”, but during this first long weekend, the truth is that they left a lot to be desired, “we expected to sell more”, they say.
