National Guard members ambushed on Guanajuato highway; one officer killed and another injured

Two members of the National Guard’s Roads Division (GN) were ambushed by an armed group on the Celaya-Villagrán Pan-American Highway, near the Bayer company; one officer died and another was seriously injured.

The attack occurred at 1:00 a.m. on February 6, 2025, when the officers were conducting a surveillance tour, the Mexican Army, Air Force, Navy, and National Guard posted on their social networks.

The mayor of Villagrán, Cinthia Guadalupe Teniente Mendoza, reported that municipal Public Security personnel went to the scene of the “attack” to provide support to the federal corporation.

“This morning the General Directorate of Public Security, Mobility and Civil Protection unfortunately reported to me an attack against the National Guard, near the Bayer company, one element lost his life and another is injured. Although this incident is a federal matter and occurred on a federal highway, I have instructed the security corps to provide all facilities to assist the security institutions of the Government of Mexico and the Attorney General’s Office,” she posted on her social networks.

The mayor expressed a strong condemnation of the violent incident while waiting for the authorities to find the whereabouts of those responsible.

In 2025, five officers have been shot dead in Salamanca (2), Guanajuato (1), Celaya (1) and Villagrán (1); the last two belonged to the National Guard.

STATE PATROL OVERTURN

The overturning of a patrol car of the State Public Security Forces (FSPE) caused the death of a police officer and five more were injured.

The accident occurred this Thursday morning on the San Luis de la Paz-San José Iturbide highway, near the town of Mineral de Pozos.

Firefighters and Red Cross paramedics treated the officers, who were left lying on the asphalt, two of them in critical condition.
