The Michoacan walker, Ever Palma Olivares, dominated the unusual mile walk event at the legendary Millrose Indoor Games by taking first place with a time of 5:24.50 minutes and setting a world record to surpass Timothy Lewis’ 5:33.53 set 37 years ago.
In this American competition, which has brought together some of the best athletes in the world, the Mexican Olympian set his pace from the start of the event to take first place, in a competition where he was accompanied by the Swede Perseus Karlson, world runner-up in the 20 km, who finished second in 5:32.24.
While the German Chris Linke, fifth in the 20 km in Tokyo 2020+1, was third in the race with a time of 5:85.33, followed by the Spaniard Diego García with 5:44.84. Palma, fifth in the mixed relay in Paris 2024 with Alegna González, once again wrote another part of his history in Mexican sport by entering the record books, especially for being one of the indoor events that has the Millrose Games as its hallmark, an event created in 1908. The New York event is attended by athletes from various nations around the world who take part in disciplines ranging from speed to those carried out in the field, such as the pole vault or the long jump.
