The mayor of Lerdo, Homero Martínez Cabrera, announced that in the next few days the arrival of the first Walmart branch in the municipality will be made official, an investment that, according to him, will decisively boost local economic development.
During the delivery of new municipal facilities, the mayor highlighted the support of the governor of the State of Durango, Esteban Villegas Villarreal, to boost the economy of Lerdo. “That is called development for the municipality; I consider that it is part of betting on the economic development that Lerdo requires,” said Martínez Cabrera.
The mayor highlighted that his administration has facilitated administrative processes to attract investments and pointed out that, after meeting last week with businessmen from Grupo Walmart, important opportunities are foreseen, especially in terms of job creation for the community.
The mayor also mentioned two other projects of great importance for Lerdo: the installation, through Iberdrola, of a 1,000-hectare solar park in the León Guzmán area, behind Cerro de la Ballena, and the project of the fertilizer company Tarafer, which represents an investment of 1.5 billion dollars. According to Martínez Cabrera, these projects are part of the ambitious plan to consolidate Lerdo as a key point in the economic development of the Laguna Region.
