The Mexico-Querétaro Train, including its extension to Irapuato, Guanajuato, will cost 175 billion pesos, with construction work set to begin in July of this year, and is projected to operate in 2028, reported Andrés Lajous Loaeza, head of the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency.
During an event this Saturday by President Claudia Sheinbaum in Irapuato, the official said that it will be a train that will unite cities, but also communities, as it will have stations in Buenavista (Mexico City), Tula (Hidalgo), San Juan del Río and Querétaro, in addition to Irapuato in Guanajuato.
He mentioned that this passenger train, like others that will be built this year, “will have their own tracks, that is, they will not go on the freight track, but they will go next to the freight track on the right of way. They will have maximum speeds of 160 and 200 kilometers per hour.”
He mentioned that the Mexico-Querétaro section will require an investment of 117 billion pesos to benefit a population of 5.6 million inhabitants.
He indicated that it is 225 kilometers of double track with speeds of up to 200 kilometers for now, in an estimated travel time of one hour and 50 minutes; he said that it will be built between 2025 and 2028.
Meanwhile, he highlighted that the Querétaro-Irapuato section will have a length of 110 kilometers with a double track for passenger trains, in an average travel time of 59 minutes.
He mentioned that the works will be carried out between 2025 and 2027, so that it begins to operate in 2028. He said that it will require an investment of 58 thousand 760 million pesos, and would benefit three million inhabitants of Irapuato, Celaya and Salamanca.
Therefore, the total estimated cost for the Mexico-Querétaro-Irapuato Train is estimated at 175 thousand million pesos, as proposed by Andrés Lajous.
Water agreement signed for Guanajuato
During this event, federal authorities and the governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, signed the collaboration agreement for the Irrigation Technification 011 Alto Río Lerma, whose purpose is to guarantee the supply of drinking water in that entity, as well as for agricultural use.
The head of Conagua, Efraín Morales López, said that this plan will require 6.4 billion pesos, between federal and state resources.
He said that with this plan, more than 120 million cubic meters of water will be recovered, and an aqueduct will be built that will take that water to five municipalities: Celaya, Salamanca, Irapuato, Silao and León.
At this event, Sheinbaum was also accompanied by the Secretaries of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, of Education, Mario Delgado, and the coordinator of Welfare programs, Carlos Torres Rosas.
