The State Secretary for Sustainable Development, Marco del Prete Tercero, reported that there are 10 to 12 American investment projects in the automotive sector for Querétaro in the pipeline, which have not been cancelled so far, after the imposition of tariffs by the United States on Mexico.
However, he stressed that all productive sectors will be affected by this tariff policy, a situation that, if it continues, does concern them. Del Prete Tercero explained that a precise impact on Querétaro cannot be quantified, since exports to the United States are 15 billion dollars annually, a figure that would increase due to the installed productive capacity, the generation of jobs, and commercial exchange within the state and the country. He also announced that this Thursday he will meet with chambers, colleges and associations of Querétaro, to outline the actions and strategies to follow to mitigate the impact.
He regretted that these tariffs had been imposed, which he described as unfair, unilateral and illegal, since there is a free trade agreement at stake. He also considered that the United States’ decision was not based on a trade issue, but on another type of agenda.
