In an interview with Al Cabo Noticias, where the topic of the day was “How is Los Cabos’ tourism competitiveness?”, Berta Montaño, Secretary of Finance for the Baja California Sur government, spoke about the income generated from tourism in Baja California Sur.

She emphasized that tourism is a driving force for the state’s development.

She added that around 900 million pesos are raised annually: “This is the revenue generated by the resources, most of which goes to tourism promotion.”

She said it is important to maintain competitiveness.

She reported that the tax directly applied to tourism activities is the lodging tax, which is 4 percent: “And that goes to promotion, and 1% of that 4% is added to resources managed by the Social Infrastructure Fund; it is funded by the payroll tax.”

She emphasized that state taxes are not sent to the federal government; they remain in the destination.
