Mexico continues to consolidate its position as one of the most attractive destinations in the world, registering a 13.5% increase in the arrival of international tourists in September 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year.
According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), 3.31 million foreign tourists arrived in the country during that month, compared to 2.91 million in September 2023.
The main growth was observed among border tourists, who represented the group that increased the most compared to 2023. These visitors, who arrive mainly from neighboring countries such as the United States, took advantage of the proximity to enjoy Mexican destinations and attractions. On the other hand, the number of tourists who arrived by plane decreased slightly, which could be related to adjustments in flight prices or preferences for nearby destinations.
In economic terms, tourism also brought good news. Income generated by international visitors grew compared to the same period last year. Although each tourist spent less on average, the total volume of income increased, reflecting the large influx of people interested in getting to know Mexico.
Tourism has been a key driver for the national economy in recent years. In 2023, Mexico remained among the most visited countries in the world, receiving millions of tourists thanks to its diversity of destinations, from paradisiacal beaches to colonial cities full of history. This growth not only benefits the tourism sector, but also services, businesses and local communities.
