Transporters are in favor of the San Cristóbal-Palenque highway

The transportation sector supports the San Cristóbal de las Casas-Palenque highway construction project, considering it a sound decision by the federal and state governments to improve the economy, develop tourism, and improve communication between municipalities, regions, and connections with the neighboring state of Tabasco, stated Bersaín Miranda Borrás, president of the National Transportation Movement.

In an interview, he added that it is a highly relevant project for the state of Chiapas, especially because we depend heavily on tourism and because our tourist routes require better communication routes to attract more visitors. Furthermore, the Highlands, Jungle, and Northern regions, where the infrastructure would be developed, have great potential.

Via telephone, he explained that the communication route would directly benefit the municipalities of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Ocosingo, San Juan Cancuc, Oxchuc, Sitalá, Chilón, Tila, Tumbalá, Sabanilla, Salto de Agua, Yajalón, Palenque, among others, which boast significant world-class tourist attractions. Furthermore, connections to the Lacandon Jungle could be made from San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Palenque, and Ocosingo.

Miranda Borrás added that Chiapas has quality tourist destinations, and if the announced highway, which has already received the support of some indigenous communities, becomes a reality, it will be an important catalyst for the state. Unfortunately, in the past, indigenous communities have been blamed for opposing the development of some areas, which sometimes delays the state’s progress due to the political interests of caciques that manipulate citizens.

“I believe that the intellectual figures and actors manipulating indigenous groups to oppose development have been identified without a doubt. They are not the indigenous peoples; we respect the indigenous peoples. In this case, the project is very good; it has the support of indigenous peoples and society in general,” insisted Bersaín Miranda.

Relatives are searching for Pablo and Jorge after their disappearance in Berriozábal
It’s been a year since they disappeared in the San José neighborhood, and so far there have been no answers.

When someone has protested against a project in various parts of the state, they are not responsible, but rather victims of manipulation and blackmail. There have been cases in several municipalities across the state, but I believe that in this road project from San Cristóbal de Las Casas to Palenque, the support is very good. The state’s transportation sector supports it, and the investment and the inhabitants of the region will take advantage of the potential that will be generated.
