Tourism Secretary Saymi Pineda Velasco led a meeting with municipal authorities and presidents of business and civil chambers to intensify efforts to position Huatulco as one of the preferred destinations for visitors in the national and international markets.

The official emphasized that the government headed by Salomón Jara Cruz is working to achieve the comprehensive and sustainable development of this vacation spot, positioning it as one of the top destinations in Oaxaca, Mexico, and globally. Therefore, efforts are being combined with the federation to review development and tourism promotion projects in this destination.

At this meeting, the Mayor of Santa María Huatulco, Julio Cárdenas Ortega, explained that flights from Guatemala have been launched with TAG Airlines. Based on the agreements reached at the ANATO 2025 Colombia Tourism Showcase, the feasibility of air connections was analyzed, as well as the possibility of attracting more tourists from that country.

Lorenzo Lavariega Arista, director of the Huatulco Integrated Planning Center (CIP), joined these efforts, along with leaders of business chambers, civil society organizations, and representatives of nautical tourism, including the Huatulco Hotel Association; the Oaxaca Coast Tourism Promoters and Hoteliers A.C. (Prohotur); and the Huatulco delegation of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac), among others.

Pineda Velasco said that this boost will improve income and economic benefits for different social sectors, as well as for Huatulco families, since, alongside the preservation of natural resources, tourism must be an engine of development and social well-being.

“We continue to move forward hand in hand with the productive sectors and municipal authorities to achieve the well-being of families,” he said. Through collaborative efforts with chambers of commerce, business organizations, hoteliers, service providers, as well as municipal authorities and civil organizations, Huatulco will become a benchmark for tourism in Oaxaca.
