A train carrying vehicles derailed on the morning of Sunday, April 6, in the mountainous area of the municipalities of Tecozautla and Tequisquiapan, in Hidalgo and Querétaro, respectively.

The accident occurred on a curve at kilometer 200+500, a difficult-to-access section, where at least seven cars went off the tracks. The unit was allegedly coming from Mexico City and was headed to Piedras Negras, Coahuila.

The incident mobilized emergency services from both states. Members of the National Guard, the Mexican Army, Civil Protection, as well as municipal and state police, responded to the scene to secure the area.

Maneuvers to remove the train began shortly after the accident. However, the conditions of the area and the distance from other roads made it difficult for technical personnel to access the train.

Railway authorities and emergency services continue working to reinstate the cars and restore traffic in the affected area.

According to initial reports, the train may have derailed between Hidalgo and Querétaro due to the weight of the cargo and the steepness of the curve it was traveling on. Other possible causes, such as mechanical failure or terrain conditions, have not been ruled out.

The train was carrying cars, which were damaged by the impact and the fall of the cars. So far, there are no reports of injuries.

Family rescued after falling into a ravine in Mineral de la Reforma
Hidalgo firefighters rescued five members of a family after their car fell into a ravine approximately 50 meters deep in the municipality of Mineral de la Reforma.

The Control, Command, Communications, Computing, and Intelligence Center (C5i) received the accident report and mobilized the relevant agencies. Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers located the wrecked vehicle and descended to rescue the occupants, including three adult women, a 14-year-old girl, and an 11-month-old baby.

However, the rescue efforts were complicated due to the depth of the ravine and the terrain.

Emergency personnel provided first aid at the scene. However, as a precaution, the two children were taken to the Pachuca General Hospital and Clinic No. 1 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

The accident raised concerns among local residents, who observed the rescue operation and recognized the work of the firefighters and paramedics.
