The Querétaro Secretariat of Urban Development and Public Works (Sduop) has a project to convert Fray Junípero Serra and the southwestern perimeter road into an urban boulevard.

José Pío X Salgado Tovar, head of the Sduop, indicated that the project is estimated to cost around 3.6 billion pesos and explained that the project involves urbanizing the road, as it currently functions as a highway. This would entail providing it with comprehensive mobility infrastructure, including bike lanes, wide sidewalks, street lighting, and signage, among other things.

“A very important project in the metropolitan area is converting Junípero and the southwestern perimeter road into an urban boulevard. It’s a project that the city needs in the future, so we’re currently working on putting it together. Just imagine, Bernardo Quintana, but everything related to the perimeter road,” he commented.

He recalled that this project, which he described as high-level, was presented by Governor Mauricio Kuri González to Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), during a meeting held in Mexico City.

At that meeting, 10 strategic projects were proposed to the head of the SICT, totaling around 5 billion pesos in investment. Among these projects is a road connection between Highways 200 and 210.

“We have several proposals for road connections, including the one in El Marqués, Highway 200 with Highway 210, where Jesús María is located, and the Mexican Army. Some are already under development, so they will be supporting us with that,” he added.

He also highlighted that two of the 10 projects were approved, consisting of the construction of two bridges: one in Los Patos, in San Juan del Río, and another in Castillo, on the southwestern bypass in Corregidora, for which an investment of 207 million pesos each is planned.

“In the meeting we had with the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, a portfolio of 10 strategic projects for the state was presented, of which the Secretary approved two, and they will begin project development and construction work in 2026,” he mentioned.
