Pristine open-ocean beaches for enjoying the sun, sand, and good food are what you’ll find at Playa Ventura, an alternative to Guerrero’s new tourist route, ideal for a weekend getaway away from the hustle and bustle.
Located two and a half hours from Acapulco, in this community belonging to the municipality of Copala, in Guerrero’s Costa Chica region, you can also camp on the sandy stretch, light a bonfire at night, and stay in budget-friendly inns or boutique hotels along the coastline.
Arriving at this beach destination means leaving your bags in your room, stepping out with your towel and laying it on the golden sand to work on your tan. At lunchtime, enjoy dishes prepared with fresh seafood in the area’s restaurants.
In this town, you can delight your palate with oysters, which are large in certain seasons due to the closed season, or lobster, which is sold by the kilo and prepared to your liking. They can be cooked in mojo sauce, butter sauce, steamed, or deviled.
You can also enjoy shrimp broth, caldo rompo bedre (a kind of broth) accompanied by a beer or fried fish. If you don’t want seafood, there are restaurants that prepare regional dishes such as mole, pork in green sauce, and grilled chicken with handmade tortillas, accompanied by beans and white rice, all prepared by traditional cooks and with a good coastal seasoning.
How to get to Playa Ventura?
If you’re coming from Acapulco, you can take a bus from the Estrella Blanca bus station that runs along the route to Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, and will drop you off at the entrance to Playa Ventura or in Copala. The ticket price ranges from 200 to 250 pesos.
From there, you can take an Urvan to the tourist area of Playa Ventura.
If you don’t want to take a bus, another option is a collective taxi in Acapulco, which you can board at an authorized location in the Las Cruces neighborhood and costs 300 pesos.
If you’re traveling by car, after arriving at the La Venta toll booth, take the Metlapil toll road, which costs 150 pesos and connects you to the interchange toll booth for the town of Tres Palos, which costs 50 pesos.
The federal highway is in good condition, but the speed bumps placed in each town can cause delays.

In Playa Ventura, there are budget hotels with double rooms starting at 480 pesos, and in the municipal capital, you’ll find rooms from 400 to 480 pesos.
But there are also boutique hotels right on the open sea, where you can hear the crashing waves. Single rooms cost 1,200 pesos, double rooms 2,200, and others cost up to 2,900 pesos.

Business leaders will ask President Claudia Sheinbaum to waive toll booth fees until after Easter.
On Ventura Beach, the town itself offers security, so at night you can go out for micheladas and listen to music in nearby bars, like La Jaladita, where the atmosphere is good and you’ll hear a mix of Afro-descendant music from the 80s and 90s.

In this tourist-oriented area, there are pet-friendly hotels and eco-lodges where you can ride horses. But forget about the internet because the only way to stay connected here is to buy tokens for 10 to 15 pesos, which provide you with internet access for 5 hours.
