The traditional Oyster Festival will return for its 2025 edition on April 19 and 20, during Easter Week, held at El Punto de Bucerías beach, one of the most visited destinations in the Riviera Nayarit.
The event, which brings together residents and tourists every year, will offer more than 5,000 free oysters, in addition to a wide range of seafood-based culinary offerings, such as ceviche, fried fish, and typical regional dishes.
The program also includes cultural and artistic activities, with musical performances, live shows, and displays of local traditions. The goal is to provide a comprehensive experience that combines flavor, identity, and entertainment, consolidating the festival as one of the most emblematic celebrations of the Riviera Nayarit.
The festival enjoys the active participation of local fishing cooperatives, which donate part of their production as a symbolic gesture of gratitude for the resources the sea provides. This event is part of a tradition with more than half a century of history, in which the oyster occupies a central place not only as a food source but also as a cultural and spiritual element.
According to the Nayarit Digital Inventory, the Oyster Festival is closely linked to the region’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, as it encompasses traditional practices such as the manual extraction of the mollusk by diving without equipment, a technique that requires in-depth knowledge of the marine ecosystem, its cycles, and reproductive periods.
Beyond its festive nature, the event represents an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between coastal communities and their natural environment, as well as to value the popular knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
The event will take place at El Punto Beach, where hundreds of visitors are expected to attend over the two days of activities. Admission to the event is free, and the invitation is open to those who wish to enjoy a unique culinary and cultural experience by the sea.
