As thousands of Mexicans and tourists flocked to the beaches of Veracruz’s Boca del Río for their spring break, a mixed scene emerged: while some attended church services for Palm Sunday, others opted to kick off their vacation by enjoying the sun, sand, and sea.
Early risers took advantage of the warm weather to cool off in the ocean, accompanied by refreshing drinks and fresh seafood. “We came from Tulancingo, Hidalgo, to relax on the water,” said José, one enthusiastic beach-goer. “It’s busier starting from Wednesday.”
Locals who live in the area also took advantage of the beautiful weather, choosing beaches in Santa Ana. “We’re from here and we come before and during Holy Week because our family comes,” explained Lucía. “We get some sun but not too much, as it gets hot, so we bring umbrellas and chairs.”
Visitors were eager to make the most of their trip before the crowds increase, with many planning to stay away until after Holy Thursday and Good Friday. “Everything is beautiful,” said María Eugenia from Puebla. “The weather is great, enjoying it, starting our vacation, but we won’t be able to come here again.”
Last year saw an impressive 80% hotel occupancy rate during the two-week break; this trend is expected to continue in 2025.
