Beatriz Zamora, advisor to the National Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) in Durango, reported that during the recent Easter holiday season, there was a 20% decrease in tourist influx compared to the same period last year.
The Durango businesswoman noted that this decline has particularly impacted small businesses, which is why she considered it urgent to implement strategies to position Durango as a more attractive tourist destination.
Zamora attributed this drop in tourism to the situation currently facing the neighboring state of Sinaloa, which has led to less regional mobility. However, she was confident that the situation could improve in the coming months to avoid further impacts on local commerce.
“Formal commerce in Durango is ready to welcome visitors. We hope to see an upturn in sales in the coming days and close out this season with positive figures,” she stated.
The former president of CANACOPE highlighted the value of Durango’s historic center, as well as its natural landscapes, ideal for family tourism. Finally, she called on authorities to strengthen visitor promotion and service efforts, with the goal of restoring tourism.
