In a bid to enhance tourism promotion and unlock new development opportunities, the municipal government of Playa del Carmen, led by President Estefanía Mercado, has confirmed a twinning agreement with Playas de Rosarito, Baja California. The announcement comes as part of the 2025 Mexico Tourism Fair, set to take place from April 28 to May 1 at the Baja California Center.

Representing President Mercado, Secretary of Tourism Estefanía Hernández met with María del Rocío Adame Muñoz, the municipal president of Playas de Rosarito, to finalize the agreement. The collaboration, themed “Beach in Rosarito and Rosarito in Beach,” aims to foster cross-tourism flows, strengthen binational promotion, and boost the appeal of both destinations in key sectors such as medical, gastronomic, and sports tourism.

Key initiatives include the introduction of a Caribbean version of Rosarito’s celebrated Lobster and Fish Day in Playa del Carmen, featuring local chefs and culinary experts to highlight the region’s gastronomic diversity. The partnership will also create opportunities for Playa del Carmen entrepreneurs, particularly those with branded products, to showcase their offerings at fairs and exhibitions in Rosarito Beach, bolstering business tourism and the local economy.

Mayor Adame Muñoz praised the initiative and expressed interest in exploring Playa del Carmen’s unique attractions, including its honey routes, jungle tours, cycling paths, fishing spots, cenotes, and cultural traditions. These features have established Playa del Carmen as a leader in sustainable and experiential tourism in Quintana Roo.

This collaboration underscores Playa del Carmen’s commitment to inclusive, innovative, and diverse tourism promotion, further solidifying its reputation as a forward-thinking destination under the leadership of Estefanía Mercado.
