Leather, studs, and lots of attitude: Lady Gaga and her little monsters celebrate their return to Mexico City.

No, it wasn’t a Metallica or Judas Priest concert, although the scene around the GNP Seguros Forum might have suggested it. The night was tinged with black, leather, studs, and bandanas tied around heads. But this time, the date was with Lady Gaga.

This was her first concert in Mexico City in 13 years. Although the Viva la Mayhem show promised a darker aesthetic, some fans decided to pay homage to all stages of her career. Each outfit told a different story: from the futuristic glam of “Bad Romance” to the theatrical rebellion of “Abracadabra.”

Dulce Mariana summed it up while adjusting her silver Orbit Headpiece-inspired headband: “Since the tickets came out, I was looking at all her eras to see what style I could copy… I based it on Bad Romance and it was all DIY. It took me a whole night and afternoon.”

The little monsters didn’t come just to see a concert. They became part of a celebration. For many, Gaga isn’t just a singer: she’s a voice that shaped generations: a figure of resistance.

“She taught me that being called out for something like being trans shouldn’t be considered a bad thing,” says Carlos, a concert attendee.

Some of those waiting in line to enter the venue recalled how they discovered Gaga. For Dulce Mariana, it was immediate: “I heard Poker Face and said, ‘The LGBT universe is for me.’ I connected instantly.”

For Edwin Peralta, their connection went beyond music: “When I learned that at the beginning of her career, she was her own manager and pretended to be someone else to get shows… that taught me that trusting yourself can change everything.”

Edwin, dressed in white, had prepared a look that combined references from Abracadabra and his own interpretation of “a dance floor ghost.” A designer friend helped him put it together with store-bought and handmade pieces.

Meanwhile, other attendees mentally reviewed the messages Gaga had left them over the years. These weren’t memorized speeches, they were gestures, attitudes, indirect responses to attacks. “I think her greatest message was never denying anything when she was called out for being trans. That left a mark on me,” one of them shared. “Because instead of denying it, she stood up for inclusion,” Carlos explains.

This concert is not part of her The Mayhem Ball Tour, which will tour Las Vegas, New York, Paris, and other cities. Viva la Mayhem in Mexico has its own identity: an intimate reunion after more than a decade, a chance to settle a debt between Gaga and her Mexican audience.

Conversations revolved around favorite songs—”Bad Romance,” “Judas,” “911.” Meanwhile, images of Lady Gaga, photos, T-shirts, bags, and crowns are sold outside the venue for those looking to complete their outfit.
