During his address marking the first 100 days of his second term, US President Donald Trump stated that he has become “very unpopular in Mexico” during this period.
“I have become very unpopular in Mexico after changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America,” the president told the rally attendees.
From Macomb, northeast of Detroit, Trump highlighted his administration’s actions during the beginning of his second presidency, where the issue of Mexico arose due to its alleged unpopularity and the importation of cars.
In this regard, the president stated that the United States does not need cars made outside the country, since vehicles can be manufactured on its own territory.
“We really don’t want their cars. We really don’t. We want to make our own cars. That includes Canada, that includes Mexico, which has taken a huge amount of our business. Canada has a tremendous 10 or 12%. Mexico is 32%. They took 32% of our car production. We don’t want them,” he said.
He criticized the fact that these figures result in his government subsidizing Canada “$200 billion a year” and Mexico “$300 million a year,” when, he asserted, “there is no reason for this.”
“I’m proud to be the president of working people, not of foreign workers,” Donald Trump assured a crowd of just over 2,000.
In that regard, he asserted that Linda McMahon, the U.S. Secretary of Education, is doing a great job, following the adoption of English as the official language of the United States.
