During the Mexico 2025 Tourism Fair, held in Tijuana, Baja California, Volaris and TagAirlines established a codeshare partnership. This collaboration seeks to strengthen air connectivity between Mexico, Guatemala, and the Central American region.
The agreement, signed by Enrique Beltranena, Executive President and CEO of Volaris, and Marcela Toriello, President and CEO of TagAirlines, will allow both companies to market flights operated by the other under their own code. Operations under this modality are anticipated to begin during the second half of 2025, once the necessary regulatory approvals are obtained from the corresponding authorities.
Enrique Beltranena expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, stating that “in addition to allowing us to expand our destination network and presence in Central America for the benefit of our customers, it will also contribute to improving air connectivity between Mexico, Guatemala, and Central America, which is crucial to fostering greater economic development that translates into better opportunities and quality of life for communities.” She added that the alliance will simplify the booking and documentation processes for passengers.
Marcela Toriello stated that “for the Tag Airlines family, today is a great day, as this agreement with Volaris will make it possible to strengthen air connectivity between Central America and Mexico.” She expressed her pleasure in announcing the signing, stating that “it will allow us to offer passengers a broader and better connectivity offering between the destinations served by both airlines.”
Thanks to this codeshare, Volaris customers will have the opportunity to connect from various Mexican cities to more than 11 destinations served by Tag Airlines in Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, and southern Mexico, facilitating access to points of interest such as Tikal and Flores. Reciprocally, Tag Airlines passengers will have access to Volaris’ route network in Mexico, the United States, Central and South America, including destinations such as the Riviera Maya.
Among the benefits for travelers are the ability to purchase combined itineraries in a single transaction, check baggage to the final destination, and access optimized connection options between Mexico and Guatemala.
Regarding onboard service, each airline will maintain its operating model. Volaris will continue with its ultra-low-cost offering, while TagAirlines will maintain its regional service tailored to short-haul routes.
