A serious accident occurred Saturday morning, causing the complete closure of the northbound Mexico-Querétaro Highway for more than four hours.
The accident occurred at kilometer 49 in the municipality of Coyotepec, State of Mexico.
According to initial reports, the driver of a semi-truck lost control of the vehicle after apparently falling asleep at the wheel.
The vehicle went off the road, fell into the ditch of the center median, and crashed into a large tree.
The impact was so severe that the trailer bed split, scattering tons of vegetables on the asphalt.
The heavy vehicle and the tree were severely damaged, completely blocking vehicular traffic.
Some local residents came to the scene to assist the driver, who suffered injuries and was treated by paramedics.
Witnesses also reported that several people took advantage of the situation to steal some of the merchandise scattered around the site.
