Another confrontation in the northern Baja California Sur area, now in the municipality of Loreto, occurred this Monday, resulting in three deaths and one arrest, authorities confirmed.
According to Governor Víctor Castro Cosío, during an operation in that region—350 kilometers north of La Paz—armed civilians traveling along the Loreto-San Javier highway fired at security personnel.
He indicated that it was a direct attack on security forces, and they repelled the attack, resulting in the deaths of three assailants, two of them at the scene and one while receiving medical attention.
He added that three long and short weapons, along with tactical equipment, were seized.
The governor stated that due to the violent events reported since last month, surveillance has been strengthened throughout the state. This operation was coordinated by the Security Roundtable, which involves federal, military, and intelligence forces, with the aim of safeguarding the population.
He emphasized that operations will continue in the area to preserve order and peace.
It is worth mentioning that last week, a passenger bus was also intercepted on a stretch of highway in the municipality of Loreto, while transporting live ammunition for assault rifles, 10 tactical vests, 20 ballistic plates, ski masks, and belts.
A confrontation was also reported in the northern mountains of Mulegé, resulting in the death of two men and the burning of three vehicles. Residents of the ranches informed authorities that armed individuals had broken into the bus and heard a confrontation.
Authorities have not reported any arrests for the seizure of weapons inside a passenger bus or for the confrontation in Mulegé.
