In Veracruz port, entrepreneurs set up a fish market

Amparo Hernández Guzmán grew up by the sea. The daughter of a fisherman with 80 years of experience, she learned to recognize the rhythms of marine life from a young age. Today, along with two other women from fishing families in Veracruz, she started a small fish market, where she transforms that heritage into flavor, offering seafood as a way to diversify the sector’s economy.

Amparo has been cooking for more than 30 years. Today, at 56, she is the creator of shrimp and seafood tamales, a fusion that blends the Mexican tamale tradition with seafood.

Hernández Guzmán gets up early in the morning to prepare and sell fish early, allowing fishing families to continue earning an income even during difficult times. Straight from the boat to the table, she now supports a sustainable economy on the Veracruz coast.
