Rising heat reduces attendance in Álamos

The arrival of warmer weather also means fewer visitors to Álamos, with lower hotel occupancy and lower demand for some service providers. However, regional tourism is what maintains weekend attendance.

María José Barriga, director of the Municipal Tourism Office, mentioned that these months, given the rising temperatures, are considered low season, when tourist attendance is typically lower. However, cultural programs are already being planned to attract visitors.

“For example, these days, hotel occupancy has remained low, as visitors come mainly from nearby municipalities such as Navojoa, Huatabampo, and Ciudad Obregón, but in these cases they are not staying, just visiting for one day,” she added.

Although the percentage of visitors that decrease in Álamos during the hottest months has not been averaged, it is estimated that at least 25 percent of tourists will choose to reduce their visits to the magical town.

The tourism director explained that regional mobility is what helps keep the economic flow flowing during the off-season in Álamos, with scheduled cultural events and weekends, where some visitors flock in.

However, she noted that the number of tourists visiting the municipality has been very significant throughout the year, such as last Easter, when the municipality welcomed at least 36,000 vacationers.
