DEA confirms presence of organized crime in Tlaxcala again

Despite claims to the contrary by the state government, the United States Department of Justice, through the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), once again highlights the presence of significant organized crime groups in Tlaxcala.

In recent months, a report was leaked indicating the presence of criminal gangs in the state, which the state government denied, arguing that the report lacked support and evidence.

However, the United States Department of Justice has once again published the 2025 National Drug Threat Assessment Report, confirming the presence of cartels in Tlaxcala.

The report details the production, trafficking, and distribution of illicit synthetic drugs such as fentanyl and methamphetamine by the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) cartels.

According to the report, these criminal organizations are active in much of Mexico, including Tlaxcala. They have procurement, distribution, and financial support networks that extend across Latin America, China, and other key global hubs, constituting the primary threats to drug trafficking.

The report states that these groups control clandestine production centers in Mexico, manage smuggling routes to the United States, and manage distribution centers in key cities in the neighboring country.

Furthermore, the document warns that these networks leverage social media and digital applications to promote their products and reach younger audiences, expanding their reach and distribution sophistication.
