Elisa Haro Ruiz, Secretary of Tourism in Durango, announced that nothing concrete has yet been finalized regarding tariffs on productions filmed outside the United States. However, film professionals in the United States have requested incentives for productions, matters they are currently working on with the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit.
“The only thing they’ve asked us for, following the U.S. president’s statement, is to seek to strengthen the incentives that Mexico is offering as a country, and what we are offering at the state and municipal levels. We are already working on it, and everything remains in place.”
Another point Haro mentioned was that, so far, the issue has not been raised again in Mexico, and the state continues to be promoted as a filming destination.
“There hasn’t been any further information. I’d like to tell you that a team of ours is at an event with IMCINE in Mexico City. The truth is, the topic hasn’t been mentioned further. What we’re looking for is to strengthen our status as a preferred film destination in Mexico with the various attractions we’re offering.”
He explained that, for the most part, Mexican productions are filmed in the state.
“The truth is that there have been, above all, short films from Durango, some from outside, the opportunity to tell their stories, and that allows us to be active. There has been production practically every month, some others a little larger. And that also allows the value chain, which includes the large film industry, to remain active. And with jobs.”
