To create more green spaces that serve as green lungs, provide ecological benefits to the region, and improve the quality of life for its residents, the Sonora River Green Corridor will be created, said Karina López Ivich.
Hermosillo has the potential to create this Green Corridor, which would be unique and of great benefit to its residents,” she stated.
The founder of the group Inspiring Action for a Better World emphasized that this corridor will be more than 35 kilometers long and will begin before the El Molinito dam.
“We have analyzed the situation of the natural spaces along the Sonora River from the new Abelardo L. Rodríguez-El Molinito-La Sauceda Dam System Natural Protected Area,” she said.
But they will also seek to include other points of interest, the activist mentioned, such as Cerro de la Cementera and Metropolitan Park, where Los Jagüeyes are located.
López Ivich stated that they will work with various institutions to create this space, which will help combat climate change and will benefit the water stress experienced by the Sonora capital.
This proposal includes reforestation, environmental restoration, water harvesting, and Above all, sustainable development so that it is not only a green space but also benefits residents,” he added.
Although it is still a project, he explained that workshops will be created where associations, civil society, and governments can participate in the creation of this green space.
