Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum did not order the “demolition of gringo walls” on the beaches of Rosarito, in the Baja California municipality. This is misinformation. Currently, there is no wall of any kind on the beaches of the Rosarito municipality, located more than 50 kilometers from the US border.
To “verify the facts,” the Instagram post shares a photograph showing a pair of Mexican army trucks in a tropical area. However, it was taken out of context, as it actually corresponds to a 2023 special operation by the Mexican army to arrest the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho.”
The post uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create scenes showing Claudia Sheinbaum and army personnel on a beach, and also to create an avatar that acts as a news anchor. Through a request to our VerifiChat channel, El Sabueso was asked to review a video that says, “The beach belongs to the people, Claudia Sheinbaum liberates the beach.” The video is circulating on Instagram and has over 26,000 likes and more than 2,500 comments.

How did we discover the video is fake?
El Sabueso took a frame from the video and scanned it with the AI-generated image detection tool, aiimagedetector, and found that the image has a 70% probability of being generated by that technology.
Using a reverse Google Lens search, we found that the original photograph used to “claim” the operation took place was actually captured in 2023 by photojournalist Daniel Berehulak for The New York Times and corresponds to an operation to capture the CJNG leader in Michoacán.
Furthermore, a review of the official presidential website found no evidence that the president issued such a measure. Similarly, during her recent visit to Rosarito in late March, she did not publicly comment on the demolition of fences on these beaches.
In conclusion: President Claudia Sheinbaum did not order the demolition of border walls on Rosarito beaches in Baja California, as some images were generated by AI, and another photograph corresponds to a 2023 operation in Michoacán.
