The head of SECTUR, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, emphasized that the firefly season is an unmissable event that Mexicans and tourists alike should experience.
She also highlighted that Tlaxcala will have its eighth UNESCO-endorsed community tourism guide, which will make it a global benchmark.
“What this means is that all these experiences, which are not only in two municipalities but in all 60, give them the opportunity to eat mole de Contla with Doña Guillermina, go to Huamantla to make the rugs, and not wait until August 14th, but in a marketable way and, above all, with tourism promotion.”
“When people ask me what are the things you can’t miss in Tlaxcala, one is the firefly sanctuary, a natural phenomenon that has made Tlaxcala one of the states with the highest visitor numbers during the times it occurs, which is starting in July and August,” she emphasized.
She added: “Today, Visit Mexico is the brand that directs us to all of Mexico, to the states where you will find out what firefly season is all about. All these experiences will be promoted, along with how to get there, schedules, and guidelines. It’s a successful product, because of its sustainability, because there are entry and exit times, and because it encourages tourists to care for the environment.”
The federal official recognized the governor’s efforts through teamwork; “I want to applaud Tlaxcala because they comply with more environmental protection guidelines, and that makes it a successful product that benefits all communities.
I want to tell you that during this firefly season, there will also be high-profile influencers who will highlight this phenomenon that they’re not familiar with. It’s when we said, ‘Tlaxcala does exist,’ because no one imagines that two and a half hours away we can see a forest full of lights, because no one imagines that these are two municipalities full of gastronomy, art, and culture,” he emphasized.
