According to the State Civil Protection Coordination and citizen reports from the state of San Luis Potosí, the phenomenon was visible in several locations, and there are reports that it could also be observed in regions of southern Tamaulipas and the state of Querétaro.

What did NASA say about the asteroids in San Luis Potosí?

After initial investigations, the state agency consulted NASA’s Planetary Defense platform in real time, a specialized tool for monitoring near-Earth objects (NEOs). The review identified five asteroids that entered Earth’s orbit.

One of them, named 2025 KS8, has attracted the most attention due to its proximity. According to NASA information, the celestial body may have been leaving debris in its wake, which would explain the lights and sounds reported by citizens in the skies above San Luis Potosí.

The State Coordination indicated that, so far, there is no confirmation that the object impacted the Earth or that it poses a risk to the population. It is, in principle, an astronomical phenomenon that can occur when meteorite debris enters the Earth’s atmosphere and disintegrates due to friction.

In addition, it was reported that no material damage or injuries to people have been reported as a result of the phenomenon. Local authorities in neighboring states are still in the verification process to confirm or rule out that the sighting was also visible in their respective regions.

Do you remember what already happened in Tamaulipas?

The event alarmed the Valley of Mexico in the early morning of April 16; a light crossed the sky and a loud bang was heard.
Furthermore, they recalled that phenomena of this type, although rare, are constantly monitored by international organizations and that mechanisms are in place to alert in case of real risks.

The agency will continue to coordinate with federal agencies and astronomical organizations to monitor these types of events and ensure the safety of the population. Asteroids are causing panic in San Luis Potosí; they’re investigating whether they were seen in Tamaulipas.
