Comarca Lagunera, Durango.- According to Arturo Ortiz Galán, head of the Durango State Government’s Investment Attraction Unit and Undersecretary of Economic Development, the Lagunera Region will mark a turning point with Esteban Villegas due to the quality of investments already underway, from the Cuencamé-Durango gas pipeline, an automotive manufacturing company, and the Data Center to be located in León, Guzmán, and the capital city of Durango.
Ortiz Galán stated that the first week of August is already scheduled for the Governor of the State of Durango, Esteban Villegas Villarreal, to “lay the first stone we had dreamed of for the Fermachem project. The Fermaca group’s fertilizer plant, which was the former Tarafert, also now has permits. We have spoken with the municipality, and the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is being followed up on; they are now ready,” he explained.
He mentioned that they collaborated to bring the Federal Government, through Pemex, closer to establishing a purchase agreement for 40% of urea production to ensure a preferential price for Mexican agriculture.
“This will help us establish good synergy with the Federal Government so that production can be more competitive and there will be better prices for Mexican agriculture.”
“The energy project for Lerdo, consisting of 999 megawatts, is already ready. It’s a Spanish company that the governor will announce very soon with the Federal Government to finalize this matter, and the permits have been in place since December,” he noted.
Announcement of an automotive manufacturing company is imminent
Arturo Ortiz Galán shared that an announcement regarding the automotive manufacturing sector is being prepared for September, ahead of the third state address by Durango State Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal.
“It’s a very, very large project; this would be a large automotive plant for the entire region. It’s a complete ecosystem coming, and the region’s economic situation will change significantly,” he explained.
Construction companies should have their certifications
He was emphatic in recommending that construction companies have the necessary certifications so they can be part of the public works projects that are being sought in the Laguna Region.
“It’s useless for us to bring in multi-million-dollar investments if we don’t ensure that local companies retain some of that wealth in the region. What I mean by that is, from the construction sector, we have to be as professional and competitive in prices so that local construction companies can compete and win those multi-million-dollar contracts, and that wealth stays here,” he explained.
He urged the various business and industrial chambers to also be up to par with certifications and everything necessary to ensure that suppliers of the investments being established in the state can access them.
