Seven members of the Culiacán Municipal Police were arrested for assaulting Sinaloa State Preventive Police (PEP) officers during an altercation that occurred on the night of June 2.

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) confirmed the arrest of the municipal officers. It explained that they were detained “for displaying aggressive behavior” toward state officers.

According to authorities, on Monday night, PEP personnel arrived at a private clinic in Culiacán to corroborate a report of two people admitted with gunshot wounds.

“Previously, 089 received an anonymous report about the admission of two men with gunshot wounds, so PEP officers went to confirm the situation, which led to the aforementioned events,” the SSP stated.

It was reported that the detained officers were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to continue the corresponding investigations and, based on this, determine responsibility.

According to reports from Los Noticieristas, the detained Culiacán police officers are six men and one woman, identified as: Luciano “N”, Pedro Luis “N”, Saúl “N”, Luis Alberto “N”, Jasiel Humberto “N”, Jesús Manuel “N”, and Reyna Gloria “N”.

In addition to their arrest (which was captured in a video that began circulating on social media), two patrol cars and firearms were also seized, which they used to attack the state agents.

At the time of the events, it was reported that a group of armed civilians, aboard a supposedly cloned PEP patrol car, had attacked Culiacán municipal police officers in front of the private clinic located in the Gabriel Leyva neighborhood.

However, based on the report issued by the SSP this Tuesday, it was learned that the altercation stemmed from an assault by Culiacán police officers on state agents.

To date, authorities have not reported any injuries in these incidents. Meanwhile, Sinaloa authorities and Mexican Army personnel maintained security at the private clinic where the assault occurred.

Regarding the two injured civilians who entered the clinic, authorities have not provided further information, so their identities and medical status remain unknown. As of the publication of this article, the Culiacán City Council has not commented on the incident that occurred on the night of June 2.
