Municipal authorities are revising the permits for merchants in the capital’s Historic Center to make traffic safer and ensure fair competition with established businesses.
In this regard, an area of the state capital has been in conflict for several weeks because some merchants do not have permits.
This is the area of Durango experiencing conflict due to an excess of street vendors.
The most conflictive area due to the excess of street vendors is the former Juárez barracks, where informal commerce has grown around it, causing discontent among those who do have permits to sell in this area, as well as among established merchants.
For several weeks now, vendors who sell corn on the cob in this area have also been relocated because they did not have a permit from the authorities, which sparked a day of street blockades and demonstrations.
What problems does the area of Durango face with the greatest conflict with merchants?
The biggest problem in this area of the city is that merchants have clogged the sidewalks, sometimes making traffic impossible, forcing pedestrians to step off and risk walking in the middle of the street.
These merchants carry out this activity without permission from municipal authorities. Therefore, when they have been ordered to do so, they have protested against the authorities, even though they are not justified in their actions because they do not have a permit.
Buses pass through the area of Durango where merchants are in conflict
Another problem in this area of Durango is that public transportation routes, both urban and rural, pass through it, causing the streets to constantly become clogged with trucks.
This is also a problem for trucks heading to the rural area. Within the former Juárez barracks, there is a bus station that travels to several towns in the city. Being close to a market makes the transport of goods more feasible.
