An armed attack between criminal groups occurred this Wednesday in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, in which three people were killed, one of whom was passing by when the confrontation occurred.

The incident occurred in the Hidalgo neighborhood of Ciudad Obregón, where armed civilians exchanged gunfire while aboard two pickup trucks.

According to the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office (FGJES), a group of individuals aboard a gray Nissan Frontier assaulted the occupants of a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

As a result of the attack, the civilians who opened fire killed two men, one of whom was identified as Milkisedec “N,” 35 years old. Regarding the second, the Attorney General’s Office stated that his identity has not yet been determined.

However, in the crossfire, a woman who was driving a vehicle nearby, identified as 29-year-old Beatriz Elena “N,” was killed.

According to local media reports, the woman was working as an app-based taxi driver when she was struck by gunfire.

While processing the scene, experts from the State Attorney General’s Office located a 7.62×39 caliber firearm, tactical gear, and various other evidence inside the pickup truck in which the two men were killed. Additionally, it was determined that the white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck had been reported stolen in the state of California, United States, since February 1, 2025.

After initial investigations, the Attorney General’s Office located the gray Nissan Frontier pickup truck abandoned in the Bella Vista neighborhood of the same district. Upon searching the vehicle, they found several spent shell casings, as well as various tactical gear, which was turned over to the appropriate authorities.

It should be noted that in Sonora, two criminal organizations have the greatest presence in the state: the Caborca ​​Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel, according to data from Insight Crime.

Priority suspect from the “La Plaza” criminal group arrested
In recent weeks, several individuals identified as members of criminal cells have been arrested in Sonora.

Among the notable arrests is that of Héctor Manuel “N,” 29, who is identified as a suspected member of the criminal group known as “La Plaza.”
According to the State Board, the operation took place in Ciudad Obregón on May 13 at a home located on Monforte and Catalana streets, in the Las Misiones neighborhood.

Members of the Navy (Semar) and the Ministerial Criminal Investigation Agency (AMIC) participated in the operation, executing a search warrant.

The detainee confessed to collaborating with the criminal group “La Plaza,” which is accused of generating violence in the state as the armed wing of the Caborca ​​Cartel.

The operation also seized an arsenal consisting of four AK-47 assault rifles, two AR-15 rifles, a .22-caliber rifle, a 9mm Uzi submachine gun, and four 9mm pistols, among other items.
