In Zacatecas, a criminal cell linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) was dismantled. The cell is linked to several attacks on nightclubs in the state, as well as other acts of violence.

Through an operation carried out in the Sierra de Álica neighborhood in Zacatecas and La Zacatecana in Guadalupe, five members of the group were arrested. They were identified as perpetrators of violence in the Zacatecas-Guadalupe metropolitan area. However, none of them are originally from the state.

The five detainees are Luis Miguel “N” (37 years old), Robinson “N” (24 years old, originally from Colombia), Carlos Antonio “N” (21, Jalisco), Alberto “N” (25, State of Mexico), and Carlos “N” (25, Oaxaca).

In addition to their arrest, four long weapons, one handgun, nine magazines, approximately 250 doses of crystal meth, and tactical equipment were also seized. This evidence, along with the five individuals, was handed over to the corresponding authorities for further investigation.

State authorities report that the detained individuals were implicated in two attacks on nightclubs in the Zacatecas-Guadalupe area.

In a press conference, personnel from the State Peacebuilding Roundtable announced that the operation was carried out to dismantle this criminal cell, whose members are those who “have caused the most damage to Zacatecas in the last four months.”

It was reported that when the authorities traveled to La Zacatecana, they were attacked by armed individuals operating for this criminal cell. Upon repelling the attack, the five assailants were arrested.

“At no point was anyone threatened, as some social media platforms have tried to make it seem. The Attorney General’s Office is currently continuing to conduct searches,” stated Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, head of the General Secretariat of Government.

During the press conference, it was detailed that the detainees stated they had ties to the CJNG (CJNG), a criminal organization with a presence in all 32 states of Mexico, according to reports from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

In addition to members of the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ), personnel from the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the Investigative Police of the state Attorney General’s Office also participated in these operations.

Based on the investigations conducted, it will be determined whether the detainees are also involved in other criminal activities in the state, such as drug dealing and/or extortion.
