Morelos plans electromobility routes by 2026

The state of Morelos could have its first transportation routes based on an electric mobility model next year, which would represent an important step toward modernizing the public transportation system and, at the same time, would entail an adjustment to current fares, announced the head of the Governor’s Office, Javier García Chávez.
The official explained that the project contemplates the gradual replacement of conventional vehicles with electric vehicles, as part of a strategy to reduce polluting emissions, improve transportation efficiency, and generate long-term benefits in urban mobility.
García Chávez noted that the implementation of the new model is subject to the availability of credit lines, as well as the supply of electric vehicles on the market. Although progress has already been made in technical projections, the goal is to officially present the new route design and begin its implementation next year.
One of the central issues in this transformation is the possible adjustment to public transportation fares, a demand that transportation leaders have pushed for since previous administrations, without receiving a favorable response. As part of this process, the state government plans to complete the comprehensive assessment, the investment and partnership model with transporters, and the technical design of the new routes during the second half of 2025. To this end, the Technical Advisory Council for Transportation will soon be established, a key body in defining the roadmap for the new mobility system in Morelos.
This council’s purpose will be to evaluate proposals, analyze the economic and environmental impact of the new model, and build consensus among the government, transporters, specialists, and civil society representatives.
Finally, García Chávez emphasized that the new system aims to represent not only a change in the units but also in the quality of service, user safety, and respect for the environment.
