As part of the Housing for Well-being Program, 61,000 homes will be built in the state of Veracruz, reported Octavio Romero Oropeza, general director of the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit).

In a press conference held this Tuesday at the Infonavit facilities in the city of Boca del Río, he emphasized that the goal is to serve low-income families, primarily workers with incomes between one and two minimum wages, who are unable to afford a home.

The program is being carried out in conjunction with the National Housing Commission (Conavi), so that agency will build 30,000 homes, and the remaining 31,000 will be built by the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute.

“Between Infonavit and Conavi, we’re talking about a goal of 61,000 homes: 31,000 from Infonavit and 30,000 from Conavi. Basically, we as Infonavit have to build housing where our beneficiaries can live. Veracruz, which is a country, and there are any number of major cities, will be building housing in practically most of these cities,” he explained.

What will the Veracruz Housing Program homes be like?
The homes will have a minimum area of 600 square meters, will be located in urban areas or on the outskirts, will have two bedrooms, with the option to expand to a third, and will be located in municipal spaces with all services.

The estimated cost for this home will be approximately 600,000 pesos.

The federal official insisted that the program is aimed at the most needy workers and individuals, who have historically had difficulty accessing housing loans.

To ensure economic benefits for the state, Romero Oropeza stated that the homes will be built by Veracruz-based companies, who must hire local labor. This measure seeks to stimulate the regional economy and generate direct and indirect jobs in the construction sector.

It is worth mentioning that the program’s initial goal is 1.1 million homes.
