A court ordered Grupo Elektra, owned by Ricardo Salinas Pliego, to pay two billion pesos in debt to the Tax Administration Service (SAT), and Grupo Salinas condemned the ruling.

According to Salinas Pliego’s business conglomerate, the decision is illegal and should have been referred to a different court, given that there were procedural impediments.

“It is illegal because it intentionally and fraudulently omits the provisions of the Income Tax Law in force in 2012, the year in which the tax credit originated,” Grupo Salinas stated in a statement.

They added that, as soon as the ruling is formally notified, they will go to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to request a constitutional review.

What did a court order Elektra to do?

The Tenth Administrative Court has indicated that Grupo Elektra must pay 2 billion pesos in tax debts to the SAT.

This is a dispute that has been ongoing for five years and concerns the company’s Income Tax (ISR) payment, according to El Sol de México.

Judge Ana María Ibarra, criticized by Grupo Salinas in her statement, confirmed that the tax matter was discussed yesterday.
