The US Embassy in Mexico issued a travel security alert on Friday due to several reports of disappearances on the highway connecting Monterrey, Nuevo León, with Reynosa, Tamaulipas. The two cities are located in states bordering the United States.

CNN has contacted authorities in Nuevo León and Tamaulipas for their reaction to this statement and is awaiting a response.

“The US Consulate is aware of disappearances on the highway between Monterrey and Reynosa. The Reynosa Security Secretariat has issued a warning to avoid traveling on the Monterrey-Reynosa Highway at night and to warn of the risks of using this road, especially in the section between Cadereyta and Los Ramones,” the statement released by the embassy states, adding that the US State Department’s travel advisory for Tamaulipas is Level 4: “Do not travel due to crime and kidnappings.”

The embassy also lists a series of recommendations and reminds US government employees that they cannot travel between cities in Tamaulipas using internal highways.

Three women and a man were found alive this Friday after allegedly disappearing on the Cadereyta-Reynosa highway between June 14 and 15, according to the information sheet released by the Nuevo León prosecutor’s office.

CNN is attempting to contact the state prosecutor’s office for more information.
